My West African would preach ‘Education, Education, Education’ which I hated at the time but have grown to appreciate how invaluable knowledge is. My goal is to curate conversations with Black Entrepreneurs in the UK to find what their ‘WHY’ is. Furthermore, I’m on a mission to get black entrepreneurs podcasting! Hello guys, how are you today? My name is Jason Lazarus, founder and host of the British Black Trippin' podcast, which I am honored to be host, and I've been doing so for some time now. I feel like I've not really introduced myself on Instagram properly or on any of the social platforms or anywhere, Apart from the intro I did for my podcast. Who am I? What am I about? Why am I podcasting? What am I doing? I love podcasting and I decided to start podcasting many I'm gonna say many years ago, a few years ago, and I've kind of stopped and started and started, and I'm happy to be podcasting again around 2021. End of 2021. I was starting to think about different avenues of how I could make money in business. I became really interested in business and I just thought I really wanted to focus on black people in the UK, our own people, and really get a perspective on what business is like for them, because it's something that I want to go into and, who knows, maybe this podcast can turn into a monetization tool for myself or I discover what I really like in business. That's keeping the reason why I started podcasting, why I wanted to podcast Around the beginning of 2022.
Speaker 1:I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. I was working as a primary school teacher at the time, a job that I really enjoyed, really loved, and I was starting to think about different ways, actually even prior to me becoming unwell about how I could make extra money or how could I really find out more about business and really get to know what it's all about. So that was really the starting point of my journey. But, yeah, being unwell for the past 18 months, two years now, I still have those health challenges. It was difficult. I wasn't able to get out of bed, I wasn't able to get dressed. I'd pain in my wrist, hands and feet, knees and shoulders all of the major joints. I was in hospital for about a week in April 2022 and it was difficult. My kids and my wife really pulled me through and I've had different medications and treatments. I had to leave my job, often tough. So it's been a tough, challenging season for my life and I faced many difficulties around my own mortality Whether I was going to survive, what would my future look like and many people from the church I go to visited me, spoke to me, called me, texted me. I got a really, really good friend who came to the hospital, brought my bag to me, helped me go and see a private doctor. Yeah, it's been a whirlwind. It's been crazy, but thankfully I'm better and I'm now able to resume podcast and I'm able to resume talking to entrepreneurs in the UK and it's been absolutely fascinating.
Speaker 1:So if you've been following and you've been looking at what I'm doing whether that's through Instagram or for a podcast app then you will know that you will see different episodes popping up. Recently I had on Ziggy Mall or more education fantastic entrepreneur working in the education space. I've spoken to Hannah Spence. I've just spoken to her today. Actually, her episode will be coming out. I've spoken to so many different entrepreneurs that I've got about, I think, 10, 11 episodes out. So really looking forward to getting more out and reaching out to people.
Speaker 1:So if you are a black entrepreneur in the UK and you would like to show your story, I'd love to hear it. So reach out to me at the underscore British and score black entrepreneur. If you're looking on Instagram, it's a bit of a mouthful. Black entrepreneur is quite a lot, even when people say I'm like I may have to change this brand name at some point because it is quite the mouthful. But yeah, I will do that. Maybe look at that at some point, but yeah, it's memorable I used to do a play on words would really be helpful. So, yeah, this that's kind of a brief, some nonsense about me, and I hope I've given you kind of a little summary, a little small glimpse into my world and what I'm doing, and I'm excited to be podcasting and I can't wait to drop more episodes of the British black entrepreneur. Alright, folks, I'm going to see you guys soon.
